Teaching from the side
There is an axiom in astrology that states that big stars can be looked on straightahead, but dim stars require the person to shift their eyes, and the star will show up in the peripheral vision.
This is the only way to teach Properly, as information directly stated, tends to bounce off in a rejection. This is true school children, but also true of adults we don’t like to have things forced Down our throats. It is best to teach peripherally.
I had a math teacher in seventh and eighth grade who did just that. He used to teach only four days a week and on the fifth day on Friday he would lecture on various topics. At the end of the seventh year or towards the end of it he said he had two announcements – one was that everyone passed the class that year, and the second was that everyone had been taught half of next year‘s curriculum. I really don’t know how he did that. Mr. Tad Tsufura. The last six weeks of the class we were free to study any games that had mathematical implications.
He taught us Go and chess and all manner of other mathematical games. He is the one teacher whom I went back to visit years later just to thank him. I don’t think he remembered me but I was one of his best students and on the math team. Oh, well, the truth is that he taught peripherally, and that’s the only way to impart Knowledge into a person. Remember this in all your endeavors.
